The Ghorepani Poonhill trek is a superb short trek, increasingly popular with visitors who are new to trekking or with families. It’s possible to arrange itineraries for 3 to 6 days depending on the time available but all treks reach the spectacular viewpoint at Poonhill which offers some of the best sunset and sunrise views in Nepal.

There are 360 degree views of many of the beautiful snow-capped, high mountains of the Annapurna Conservation area including Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, II, III and IV, South Annapurna, Machhapuchhare (Fishtail Mountain), Gangapurna, Lamjung Himal, Barasikhar, Tukuche peak, Hiunchuli, the Manaslu range and many others.

In March and April the mountains are an amazing backdrop to the colourful rhododendrons which are in bloom, but there are many other beautiful wild flowers at other times and the valley is a bird watcher’s paradise.

There are good facilities in the teahouses we visit during the trek – all with electricity, good mobile coverage, hot showers, clean, comfortable rooms and homemade, organic food from the locally grown vegetables and crops. The region has traditional Gurung settlements, allowing visitors to witness their culture, and a local museum we visit will give you an insight into its history.
